Whether you “support Israel” or not, the fact remains that real human lives are being massacred right now by the Israeli military and its United States-allied military machine, which are justifying their genocide of civilian Palestinians behind many layers of pro-Israel media propaganda.
Both “left” and “right” media outlets are, generally speaking, deliberately de-humanizing the Palestinian people while propping up the people of Israel as the forever victims of a “conflict” that, quite frankly, would not even exist the way it does today had the self-chosen not taken the land in question by force starting back in the 1940s.
Nearly all mainstream media coverage about this “conflict” makes Israel sound like an innocent victim, while the people of Gaza – all 2.3 million of them – are painted as perpetrators who are trying to “erase” the Jews, or something along those lines.
The only people trying to erase anyone are the Jewish Israelites who are trying to make the people of Gaza extinct simply for existing on land that Israel has decided it now owns as of 1948.
(Related: Israeli leaders are not beating around the bush concerning their intention to “annihilate Gaza.”)
The media’s one-sided reporting on the matter makes it seem as though Hamas, which was founded by Israel itself back in the 1970s, “surprised” Israel with a freak attack, which in turn justifies the total annihilation of Gaza.
The way they are trying to manipulate the public into accepting Israel’s lopsidedly genocidal response is to never refer to the Palestinians as actual people.
“You don’t hear the word ‘victims’ [in reference to Palestinians] as you hear [when there is reporting] about the Israeli side,” says Taghreed El-Khodary, an analyst from Gaza who lives in The Netherlands, about how the Western media is shamefully shilling for Israel.
“If you don’t live in Gaza, if you don’t listen to the prayers Palestinians make when they lose loved ones, if you don’t learn about the life story of loved ones [who have been killed] … then the coverage [of Gaza] won’t be the same [as the coverage of Israel],” she further noted, adding that Western media outlets “are not just covering the Israeli narrative, but they are living the Israeli narrative.”
Try as they might to rewrite history, the media will never erase the fact that Israel was the original aggressor against the Palestinian people, having committed “Nakba,” also known as the catastrophe, against the original ones who lived in the land now known as Israel prior to 1948.
“Most of the people within Gaza are the children or grandchildren of Palestinians who were expelled from their homeland during the creation of Israel in 1948 – an event commemorated annually as the ‘Nakba’ or catastrophe,” one media outlet explains.
Despite prolific and growing evidence that Israel is openly committing war crimes against Gaza, the Western media dare not mention a word of it, instead resorting to talking about how this is all a justified “response” to what Hamas did on October 7.
“In every [Western news] report, they keep mentioning that Hamas is [designated] a terrorist group,” El-Khodary says.
“But what about mentioning what Israel is doing? It’s violating international law, it’s committing genocide. It has imposed an apartheid system [in the West Bank]. It has imposed a 16-year blockade on Gaza. Where is the context? Only that Hamas is [a designated terrorist group] and that is the only context they are giving us here.”
Another way the Western media aims to gain more support for Israel is by lying about things like the “beheaded 40 babies” at the hands of Hamas, a false claim that was later exposed as a hoax.
