In a landmark announcement from the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unveiled a comprehensive peace plan aimed at ending the devastating war in Gaza.
The proposal, which Netanyahu has tentatively accepted, outlines a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces, disarmament of Hamas, and the release of all remaining Israeli hostages—while also addressing Palestinian grievances, including prisoner releases and reconstruction efforts.
Speaking alongside Netanyahu, Trump declared, “Today is a historic day for peace… Let’s call it eternal peace in the Middle East.” The 20-point plan, released just before their joint press conference, seeks to balance Israel’s security demands with humanitarian relief for Gaza’s war-torn population. Netanyahu, who has faced growing international isolation over Israel’s military campaign, praised Trump’s leadership, stating, “You are the greatest friend Israel has ever had in the White House.” He added that the plan aligns with Israel’s war objectives: dismantling Hamas’ military capabilities, securing the release of hostages and ensuring Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel.
The proposal, which Trump claims has backing from Arab and Muslim leaders, includes:
Despite Trump’s optimism—”I’m hearing that Hamas wants to get this done too”—the group has yet to formally respond. A Hamas official told AFP that mediators from Qatar and Egypt presented the proposal, and the group will review it “with full positivity and responsibility.” However, Hamas has historically rejected disarmament unless tied to Palestinian statehood.
Netanyahu issued a stark warning: “If Hamas rejects your plan, Mr. President, or if they supposedly accept it and then do everything to counter it, then Israel will finish the job by itself. This can be done the easy way, or it can be done the hard way.”
The announcement comes amid escalating tensions. Meanwhile, U.S. troops have reportedly moved into southern Gaza near a newly constructed emergency pier, raising concerns about potential clashes with Israeli forces.
Critics argue the plan favors Israel’s security demands while offering Palestinians limited sovereignty. The PA, excluded from negotiations, has not yet commented. Meanwhile, Israeli hostage families praised the proposal, urging Hamas to accept it.
While Trump and Netanyahu tout this as a breakthrough, skepticism remains. Past ceasefires have collapsed, and Hamas’ willingness to disarm is uncertain. If rejected, Israel vows to continue its offensive—potentially prolonging Gaza’s suffering.
For now, the world watches as Hamas deliberates—and whether this proposal can truly bring “eternal peace” or merely another temporary pause in a decades-long conflict.
